Azure DevOps Integration | Connect Time Tracking with Work Items

Azure DevOps Logo Azure DevOps Integration

The Azure DevOps Integration allows you to connect Vineforce Teams with your Azure DevOps environment.

By integrating both platforms, you can align tracked time and productivity data with your development tasks, improving visibility, accountability, and reporting accuracy.

Overview

The Azure DevOps integration links Vineforce Teams with your DevOps projects so that tracked work activity can be associated with real development tasks.

This integration helps teams:

  • Connect productivity data with work items
  • Improve task-level reporting
  • Eliminate manual time reporting
  • Gain better visibility into engineering efforts

It is especially useful for development teams that rely on Azure DevOps for sprint planning and task management.

Benefits

Integrating Azure DevOps with Vineforce Teams provides:

  • Task-Based Time Tracking – Associate tracked time with DevOps work items
  • Improved Sprint Visibility – See how time is distributed across tasks
  • Better Planning Accuracy – Compare estimated vs actual effort
  • Centralized Reporting – Combine productivity metrics with project tracking
  • Reduced Manual Entry – Avoid duplicate updates across systems

This ensures your time tracking reflects actual development progress.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Azure DevOps, ensure the following:

  • You have an active Azure DevOps organization
  • You have appropriate access permissions in Azure DevOps
  • You are a System Admin in Vineforce Teams
  • Your users are already set up in Vineforce Teams
note

Only authorized administrators can configure integrations.

How to Create an Azure DevOps Personal Access Token (PAT)

Follow these steps to generate a Personal Access Token in Azure DevOps:

  1. Open your organization URL: https://dev.azure.com/{your-org} and sign in.
  2. Click the User Settings icon and select Personal Access Tokens.
  3. Click New Token, then:
    • Enter a name (for example, “Project API”).
    • Choose your Organization.
    • Under Scopes, select Read access for Project and Team (or broader permissions if required).
  4. Click Create, then copy the token immediately. Store it securely (such as in a Key Vault or Secrets Manager).

Azure DevOps Integration

tip

Test the integration with a single project before rolling it out organization-wide.

How Data Sync Works

After integration is configured:

  • Work items can be linked to tracked activity
  • Time data is associated with selected DevOps tasks
  • User activity aligns with assigned work items
  • Updates reflect in reporting dashboards

The integration ensures that time tracking supports actual development workflows.

note

Only relevant project and time-tracking data is synchronized. Sensitive information is not exposed.

Reports Impact

With Azure DevOps integration enabled, reports become more powerful.

You can:

  • View time spent per DevOps task
  • Analyze productivity across sprints
  • Compare development effort against project milestones
  • Identify bottlenecks or workload imbalances

This improves planning accuracy and team performance evaluation.

Troubleshooting

If the integration does not work as expected:

  • Verify Azure DevOps credentials and permissions
  • Ensure project mappings are correctly configured
  • Confirm users exist in both systems
  • Reauthorize the integration if access tokens expire
